Of coffee and donuts

Just last month I got back a little bit of motivation to craft and so I proceeded to attempt latte art, in miniature scale. I think I still have a long way to go, in figuring out the best proportion of liquid clay to polymer clay for the "art".

Mug is 1cm at it's widest and doughnuts are 6mm at their widest.

For some reason after baking the design got abit blurred (?). Not sure how to explain but basically its like before baking its a 1080p quality but after baking it somehow downgraded to 480p T.T
I'm thinking maybe its the temperature at which I baked this at, so I'll try it with a lower temperature next time and see how it goes!
Also need to attempt making my own mugs and plates cos miniature cutlery is sooooo expensive :<
Till next time, <3 Mel

Mini photoshoot

If you followed me on Instagram or read my personal blog, you'd know I recently brought sebby-chan out for a mini photoshoot! So without further ado, let the photo spam begin!

sebby enjoying the smell of the roses *chuckles*

sun game going strong

Sebby ain't happy about being stuck in a pile of rocks.
*stole this pic from tiffy cause my own pics were horrible*

Some random bush LOL

Lonely fallen leaf

All in all didn't take as many pictures as I hoped and didn't get to photograph the miniatures I brought along as well as the sun was glaring down at us and that kinda made all the photos overbearingly bright. I was also afraid of the bees/dragonflies/butterflies around :/
Hope this post helped revive this blog a little, will update soon with more clay works!

Micro Cupcakes

Hey peeps!

So its the holidays now and I recently created more cupcakes (that are even smaller than the previous ones, hence this title xD)
These cupcakes are 3mm in diameter.

Yes, I used the exact same props for these cupcakes too! Only difference is they fit on the miniature baking tray :D

I made six of them this time, and the flavours are: (from top left) Vanilla Buttercream, Peppermint, Chocolate Mistletoe, Espresso, Strawberry and Chocolate Chocolate.

Comparison with the previous batch of cupcakes

Side by side with the previous batch (:

I really wanted to clay more, but even though its the holidays (3 weeks) there are still FYP/projects/datasheets/pre-labs to complete so I get tired easily ):
Not to mention outings/meet ups/work/teaching...

On another note, I also tried to make these cupcakes in line with the Christmas theme but damn, I'm so out of inspiration that I've only managed these pathetic attempts at making it seem Christmas-sy. HAHA #plsdontjudgeme

Hope you like them! <3 Mel

Mini Cupcakes!

Sorry for the lack of updates! Have been lacking inspiration for clay. :/

Made some tiny cupcakes yesterday night though :D

Each cupcake measures 7mm at its widest.

Pardon me for the lack of creative toppings. It was 2am when I churned out these babies. -.-''

They all fit on a 10 cent coin!

Will attempt even smaller cupcakes next time!

A little destress...

It's been awhile since I last clay-ed, and here I am back with a few more pieces! (:

Actually the last time I clay-ed I accidentally burned my works *cries a river*

So here I present to you my perfectly baked pieces! As usual I didn't have much inspiration, just made whatever came to mind!

The first piece I made was this teddy bear cookie dipped in chocolate. I saw something similar from this clay book my friends got for me for my birthday but I modified it a little. As usual, 10c coin pictured together for scale.

FAQ: Polymer clay for beginners

Hey there! I used to get asked alot on polymer clay, like what tools to get, where I get them etc. Hence, I've decided to type out this post to help out fellow crafters who are interested in polymer clay!

First off, I don't remember when I started out polymer clay, but I do remember how I came into contact with it. I wanted to make something for my friend's birthday, so I thought, 'hey, why not make something out of clay?' And so my journey with polymer clay started from there. I did plenty of research on polymer clay, Youtube and google have been very helpful ^^ . I strongly urge you to research if you're interested in this hobby! It gets slightly annoying if people keep asking questions without first doing their own research.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, so let's start with the serious stuff!

1) How do you bake your clay?

Polymer clay requires baking to harden, as it is unlike air dry clay which, as its name suggests, air dry. I bought my second hand toaster oven at a shop called 'cash converters'.

So I clay-ed again (:

Whooohooo~ The dreaded Mid-Semester Tests are finally OVER and I found time last week to clay! As usual, I didn't have any idea of what to make, just opened my craft cupboard and started digging through stuff to make. I do however, realised that I like to make donuts ALOT. Even though I haven't eaten a single donut in real life for a few years now. It seems like every time I clay, a mandatory donut is necessary. So let the onslaught of photos begin!

Presenting to you Sebastian and the christmas cookies! "Would you like a piece of cookie to enjoy with your afternoon tea, Ojosama?"

Each cookie measures less than 1cm

Close up~
